This project, created on medium format film, is a study on the fluidity of queer identity. In these nine photos, I've built a simultaneously contemporary and nostalgic world. The nostalgic feel is achieved through the photographic medium, styling, and props.
However, the subjects themselves exist in the contemporary world. America has made strides in its acceptance and recognition of queer culture in the last century. But, the juxtaposition of the 1972 Chevrolet Impala brings into question the cultural shift that has occurred.
Queerness allows its participants the freedom to move between masculine and feminine energies. In these photos, Antonio and D'antrez masterfully flow between energies as they support, protect, and love each other. The dominant presence of white shades in the images challenges the misconception of immortality often associated with queerness.
